File this relevant practicality under “self-care and kindness.” Here's a DIY recipe to make hand sanitizer. I don't know about you, but the caustic, chemical-laden hand sanitizers irritate my skin instantly.

Since 2019, hygiene – particularly clean hands – has been top-of-mind.

Hand sanitizers in public spaces always irritate my skin and in some cases, have even caused burning. See the World Health Organization's guidelines for hand hygiene here. 

The take home message is that personal hygiene (particularly your hands) have never been more important. In an effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle, I refill my bottles of OnGuard sanitizing mist and avoid the irritation and soothe my skin.

Not only is this a simple recipe, I know exactly what's in it and consider making it a high form of self-love. It's a win-win-win, right?

This  formulation is also super handy for occasionally cleaning my cell phone and can be used in myriad ways.

2. It can be cheaper than other hand sanitizers,
3. You know precisely what's in it; there are no added chemicals.
4. It's a way to take care of yourself.

DIY Hand Sanitizing Recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

• 4 Teaspoons Rubbing Alcohol
• 1 Teaspoon Fractionated Coconut Oil
• 30 Drops OnGuard
• 2-3 drops vitamin E (optional)
• 2.3 drops aloe (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Combine all ingredients in a 1 ounce / 30ml spray bottle.
2. Shake until well combined.
3. Spray on hands and rub hands together.
